Misleading ‘DNS error’ Activating Windows 7

January 15, 2010

When activating Windows 7 you may get the error with code 0x8007232B and message indicating there’s a problem with DNS.  However it may not be a DNS problem after all.  Verify you have Internet connectivity and if so, merely re-enter your product key and that may solve it.  Full details here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/08/07/0x8007232b-dns-name-does-not-exist-error-on-windows-vista-or-server-2003-activation/

Virtual PC 2007 on Windows 7

January 15, 2010

If you have Virtual PC 2007 installed, when upgrading to Windows 7 you will be notified that it is incompatible.  An asterisk in the message indicates it will work after a reinstall, and indeed it does.  After Windows 7 is installed, uninstall Virtual PC 2007 Service Pack 1, and reinstall it, and all will be fine.  Note if you try to run it before uninstalling you will receive a message that network drivers are not bound correctly.  The uninstall/reinstall process fixes this.
